About Me

My photo
I am in my 20's and a passionate student, majoring in Psychology. I was born and brought up in Germany, moved around about 4923 times and recently moved in with my lovely boyfriend Mr. Bubbles (no that is not his actual petname), who affectionately shares the space in my green Bubble.

I am a raging, almost melodramatic observant, who picks up on body language and gestures like no other. I love to spending my days out and about and observe anything that comes my way, just so I can report it to whoever is around me.

Op shopping vs. Op shopping

This is all very bizarre. A couple of week before the end of semester I was really upset with people going Op shopping and this is how I started my blog post, which I obviously never got to finish:

Op shopping, huh?! That seems to be the latest thing for the "cool" and "artsy" chicks yea? Oh yes, by the way an Op Shop = a second hand clothes store. I suppose there are those kind of girls who spend $4000 on a handbag (no I am not kidding) and now you have those who do the exact opposite and buy from Op shops ... because it's "retro". I have a problem with either. You are a uni student, not rich and you go out and spend all the money that you have / or actually don't have on clothes that are worth $300 plus ?! As if that's not sad enough, but I've never gone "Wow, what brand are you wearing" or "Wow, this looks great!". Instead it was more of the "Oh yea, you look like any other girl". So, there seems to be a misconception that expensive clothes make you look expensive?! Hmm anyhow, I'm sure you have your reasons for buying...

Before I got to finish the post, I decided to have a chit chat with a couple of people about this Op shopping business. I never liked it ... and even now I am 100% weary. Wearing other peoples clothes? 2nd hand? Not something I had been taught to do if I had the money to buy new clothes, since the Op shops are for the poor. I spoke to Mr. Bubbles about my point of view and he obviously thought I was nuts. And so I spoke to my parents and a few other Germans and they supported my view. Second hand clothing stores are basically non-existant in Germany and only available to those who have a particular entry card that states that they are dependent on government support and what not.

Anyhow, since I cannot NOT happen, but notice the amount of Op shops vs. people ratio = 1:1 I went to speak to some people who enjoy Op shopping and soooo I decided to enter one myself today. *dramatic music*

Yes. My mother had the honour of joining me and guess what. I found the cutest little red handbag ever. I was super happy and felt super funny and proud at the same time (yes ... I get like that) to have gone into a vintage place and buy an item *hahaha*.

I wasn't too impressed with the label on the inside, which revealed that the bag was actually purchased at one of Germany's biggest departmental stores, but I actually don't know what year it was purchased. This departmental store has been there forever, after all. Oh well. It was an exciting experience nonetheless.

Thanks, MOM!

P.S.: My next move will involve bugging grandmom to show me her old furniture and what not items that they have stored away and have been meaning to chuck out forever! Her items are going to be majorly cute! I just know it!!!
