Fast food? ... No, song!

Question: Embarrassed?

I went for another one of my experiments that I keep participating in every now and then (--> post on: Stroop effect, etc.). Unlike the many other times where I sat in front of this computer screen for minutes on end, naming the color of the words that kept popping up in front of me and falling half asleep, this one was on the fun-er side (that's why I don't really understand why people don't want to participate. IT's FUN!). It tested whether an increase in "niacin" or Vitamin B3 would increase blushing during embarrassing tasks.

Soo I went to the room where the experiment was suppose to take place and of course the experimenter was awaiting me with open arms *hihi*. We started the experiment (PS: As I'm writing this, I have this mad cat, who is officially experiencing her 5 minutes of daily wildness, racing around my feet - hilarious -) I signed all the consent forms and all that, I got wired up with all the electrodes (1 on my forehead, 1 on my ring and middle finger each) and we collected baseline data *yawn*. I got the lovely and awaited blue pill (Niacin or Placebo) and we had to wait for the pill to dissolve in my stomach/half way on the way to the stomach or wherever it go stuck.

... 20 minutes later ...

He made me sing "Old Mc Donald had a farm..." or whatever the song was. Me being a true blue German obviously knew the lyrics in and out ... NOT! I had heard the main chorus once before and that was about it (for further reference, please refer to the video below). So yes I was sitting there trying to the remember the lyrics, while frigging doing all the animal sounds I was asked to do and repeating them left right and everywhere.

Can you believe it?? For the pig I ACTUALLY tried to make a pig sound (suck air through nose and mouth simulateously) when all I needed to say was "oink". What's quite interesting was that the experimenter told me he'd correct me if I made a wrong animal sound and he didn't, instead he happily let me go on making my complicated pig sound instead of the "oink oink". In addition to that I kept confusing the lyrics and it was just one big mess. I am very proud of the experimenter to keep a straight face and not burst out laughing.

Despite all results, for some reason I actually thought I had the Niacin, because at some point I felt this rush of something (that I usually only get when I drink coffee) and so my stomach gets all funny, but that then subsided. Oh well. I guess no one will ever find out.

Answer: No!
